WiFi abbreviation of wireless fidelity, which using the technology in which group of devices is connected without the help of wires all connected in networks with the help of radio waves. This article makes you clear about How Does WiFi Work.

In 1991 WiFi was first invented by NCR Corporation with AT&T Corporation, intended for use in cashier systems. The first wireless products were under the name WaveLAN.

Wi-Fi or WiFi is a local area wireless computer networking technology that allows electronic devices to connect to the network, mainly using the 2.4 gigahertz (12 cm) UHF and 5 gigahertz (6 cm) SHF ISM radio bands.

Communication across a WiFi network is a lot like two-way radio communication.

  • A computer’s wireless adapter translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  • A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection.

The process works also in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer’s wireless adapter.

The Process explained briefly:

WiFi network makes use of radio waves to transmit information across a network. The computer should include a wireless adapter that will translate data sent (Which will be 1’s and 0’s)converted into a radio signal by some analog to digital converters.

This converted Radio signal will be transmitted, through an antenna, to a decoder known as the router. Once decoded, the data will be sent to the Internet through a wired Ethernet connection.

As the wireless network works as a two-way traffic, the data received from the internet will also pass through the router to be coded into a radio signal that will be received by the computer’s wireless adapter.

If having several computers networked in your home, just create a wireless network with a wireless access point.

How Does WiFi Work

This is a single unit that contains:

  • A port to connect to your cable or DSL modem
  • A router
  • An Ethernet hub
  • A firewall
  • A wireless access point

Most routers provide coverage for about 100 feet (30.5 meters) in all directions.
